The inspiration for these plates was based on my mom and I's favorite flowers and colors. I made one plate for my mom with her favorite flower, a rose. The second plate has my favorite flower, a tulip. For the colors I did my moms favorite color, blue, and my favorite colors light green and pink. These plates were constructed by rolling out flat clay and putting the clay on a square plate mold. I added on the bottom foot of the plate by cutting clay into tall rectangles and scoring/slipping them on, I also smoothed them well to have no sharp edges.
Coil Sculpture
I was inspired to do this piece based on an otter. I made the body out of coils and smoothed them together for a clean look. The tail is another coil shaped to look like it is sitting on the side. I like how I made the otter look like it is laying down by putting the paws in front and tail to the side, I made the face looking to the side so the whole body can be seen all together.
Wheel Thrown Decorated Pots
For my wheel thrown series of pots I made a bowl, plate, and small candle holder. The decoration of the bowl was watercolor, I mixed purple and green to make a tie-dye like look. The plate was bubble glazed to give a unique design. On the last pot I carved out a moon shape on the front and star shapes all around the pot, so a candle light can shine through when put inside.
Tea Pot
My teapot design was inspired by the heart shape. I used the slab method to make the heart shape of the front/back and also the sides. I added the base at the bottom so the heart can stand by itself. The top has another heart as the handle on the lid to incorporate more of the heart design. To add more dimension and detail I added a coil lined on the front.
